I still had a good bit of Hitman HD Pack’s Hitman: Contracts left to do on Professional, and I figured it’d take a while! Like, maybe by Tuesday I’d be done. But… I was finished by the end of Sunday. Between the quality-of-life improvements and just the general ease compared to Silent Assassin, this went so much quicker and was generally more enjoyable. Sadly, I still had the same weapon collection to do once the initial playthrough was done. Same thing, though: generally easier. I did finally have to turn down the difficulty to get the achievement for killing 47 people in a single mission, but that was the very last thing I did so losing my progress wasn’t any big thing. With these old entries finally out of the way, I can move to the HD re-releases of Blood Money and Absolution!

I still had Ubisoft+, so figured I’d play yet another short-ish game from the library: Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game - Complete Edition. Even better, I’d play with Blue Melodia and make it more of a bonding experience! Sadly… I remember now why it took me over a year to complete the base game last time: I don’t like this game. The art style? Cool. The source material? Fantastic. But the gameplay for this game is just a chore. It seems like no matter what you do, enemies will just jump/run to you and punch ya. And until you level up, fighting back is not exactly enjoyable either! To top it allll off, for the completion you have to get through 6 full playthroughs of the game… gag.
Sorry, that’s just compulsory.
There’s luckily a trick to make it far more bearable: if you press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, all while holding the A-button you’ll lose a life and drop $50. Using To Go snacks to keep yourself alive makes this a quick way to level up fully as early as The Shopping District. With this trick even the hard difficulty is pretty easy, but I still hated having to play through this so many times. I even had Neomaster try and jump in to give me access to the final unlockable character (a reason for three of the playthroughs alone) but that was a bust. Whatever, I happily finished by the end of the week and I’ll (likely, probably) never touch this game again if they re-release another stack someday. I almost feel bad subjecting my kiddo to this.
