Really all I had left to do in Gal*Gun as the week began was the grindy endgame stuff. My first goal was to obtain all of the titles in the game, which is done by having certain stats while reaching each scoring rank in the game. Not hard in of itself, but it was reaching the Godlike rank I was struggling with. Up until this point I had barely reached SS rank (the rank preceding Godlike) and with the way stat changes work I’d have to reach that score without using Doki Doki Bomb. Not exactly easy, but it ended up just being a matter of rote memorization! Using Aoi’s route, you have to just know every girl’s sensitive spot and take them out using only Ecstasy Shots. It wasn’t long until I was mumbling “head headshot chest hips hips legs hips chest…” as I played and was able to get a Godlike rank each time. Sadly, there are eight titles for each rank, necessitating eight playthroughs, minimum, to unlock them all. I messed up my stats a little trying to fill out profile as I went, so I ended up needing an additional two runs. No wonder I had them all memorized by the end! After that it was all about completing the profiles, which is accomplished by using Doki Doki Mode on the same girl three times in a single run. It can be annoying because you can’t tell if you’ve used it on someone until you do so again, with an indicator only being added above their heads during normal gameplay if you’ve completed their profile. Which means you kinda have to memorize who you’re working on, so I’d just focus on a single grade and target girls based on hair color. It was a bit of a slog, but I wrapped up on Wednesday and finally put Sakurazaki Academy behind me.

Finally managed to get sitting with the missus for an extended amount of time this week on Thursday so I could dive into Life is Strange: True Colors for reals. I even restarted over from the beginning so I could properly pay attention this time. Just like every other game like this…I can’t really go into the story much. Even the very first episode has a major shock occur, so any synopsis would be rife with spoilers. I can say that the writing is so good, with all the characters being so personable and likeable. They’ve really nailed the facial animations; everyone from Alex to Ryan to Steph smile and you want to smile, too! The narrative pace is snappy, though I’d say the main story isn’t super interesting. But, it speaks to the characters and world of Haven Springs that it’s nice to just observe Alex’s own observations on the new life she is building for herself and her interactions with the townsfolk. Her supernatural ability to read people’s emotions just adds to the story instead of being the most interesting part. All-in-all, I’m not sure I like this more than the previous games overall, but it’s another wonderful entry in this series. And, most importantly, I managed to finish before it left Game Pass!

The big thing this week was that I was approaching one million Gamerscore! With Gal*Gun and True Colors out of the way, that would leave me with 220 Gamerscore left to the big milestone. I wanted to try hitting it dead-on, so I planned on finishing one XBLA title and scoring a single 20G achievement in something else. I didn’t have many options unless I wanted to start a new game, so I went with grabbing one in Mensa Academy which, I’ll be honest, I’d forgotten about. But, the next achievement I could get that would be 20G is to earn a bronze medal on every game in Coach mode. To unlock a game there, I have to encounter it in Play Mode first. Took a bit to get them all unlocked, but it was all done by Friday. I can already tell this is going to be a lot of pausing and screengrabs to get the games completed with a high enough score.

For the million, I’d need a 200G completion, and for the special occasion I actually went and purchased one: Bomberman Live, a game I’ve wanted to do since the Xbox 360 days. It wasn’t very expensive, and hasn’t been on sale since 2012. I quickly started working on the multiplayer before heading out Saturday evening for dinner and a movie, but it’ll be a very short and easy completion.
