Boy, this was pretty much Recompletion Week, with previous week’s Fallout 76 not the only game that received new achievements lately. But this was first, as I delved deeper into the new Expedition feature, heading out to The Pitt (last seen in Fallout 3’s add-on of the same name) to help the Union against Fanatics. I completed both of the missions last week, so this week I was focused on getting my hands on an Auto Axe and using it for 100 kills of one of the new mobs, Trogs. They’re essentially like the Wendigos in Appalachia, and hit just as hard. To get the recipe, you have to reach Rank 15 in the Season 10 scoreboard, which only took about two days of daily challenges to reach. Well, I also used some of my accumulated Atoms to skip some effort, but whatever. With that new weapon in-hand, I headed back to The Pitt. I needed to mow down 100 Trogs with it and there are around 10 easily-accessible Trogs in the opening section of “From Ashes to Fire”. They’re strong and kept murdering me before I could take out more than one or two. After clearing the route, you can fly back to Appalachia and return without having to recharge your Ultracell Charge. The enemies respawn and you can just repeat until you have the kills you need. Still hate the level-scaling, but I’ve bemoaned that plenty. The final achievement is for assisting ten people in Whitespring Refuge, which is a daily event that takes about 2-3 minutes each time. Didn’t finish this week, but I should have enough by the middle of next week.

The fun action game Nobody Saves the World also got new achievements the week prior, and I finally decided to go ahead and pay full price for the new add-on instead of waiting on a sale. It was only $4 with Game Pass, where the game is still a part of the library. I paired back up with ShadowlessEdge on Monday and we got to work on the relatively short addition to the game. In “Frozen Hearth”, a colosseum is added that contains 12 challenges to score gold medals on for the full completion. There are also two new forms to level to Rank S, and that’s honestly where most of the time for the completion comes from (which was the same for the main game, too). Of the two, I preferred the Mechanic, while ShadowlessEdge was usually the Bee. In the end it was hard to pair the challenges to level up, but we got through it with little issue using one of the dungeons we’d completed prior. The 36 medals you have to earn in the colosseum were very easy with only one challenge room giving us any real issue, mostly due to both of us trying to race to the end together. It ended up with the host (ShadowlessEdge) having to speed run the gauntlet himself, but he nailed it. All-in-all, a fun little return to this great game.

The other game that received more achievements is Boyfriend Dungeon, which were actually added back in August, but, unlike Nobody Saves the World, this game isn’t still in Game Pass. It was removed back in August, too, a whole three days before the added content. Seems sus, but nothing to be done. I was waiting on a sale for the game itself (the added content is delivered via a free title update) but it hadn’t gone on sale yet. But, then I remembered that I still had access to Shawn1991’s purchases due to my Xbox still being his account’s “Home” box. And he does own the game! So I quickly downloaded it and got to it. This new add-on is also pretty short, adding only a single dunj (a college) to complete and three new weapons to date. You get the axe before entering the college, the hammer on the third floor, and the whip once you complete the dunj’s final fight a second time. For the first two, leveling them up is the same as the other weapons in the base game: you level them up, then take them on a date once their current level is maxed out, repeating until level 6. The whip is odd, though, as you just need to fight them to max out their rank. Five times. A bit repetitive, but it isn’t difficult. Though, I did have some trouble getting back into the combat and was getting whooped at first, but once I got the newer weapons stronger (or switched to my boi, Seven) I was easily able to start clearing the dunj with little issue. It didn’t take long to gather the rest of the various items to collect, either. I’m just glad they didn’t add another minigame to complete.

I decided with that clean-up done, I would finally sit down with Mercenaries 2: World in Flames for reals. I wanted to get to the point in the game where I can work on the co-op achievements with ValakC. I got to work just like I do in any open-world title: check the map, go to the nearest icon, and do them all until there aren’t anymore before proceeding to the next story mission until, like a piñata, the map explodes again in colored dots to chase. There are only two kinds of side-activities: destroy a designated building or verify a high value target (HVT) and bring them in, dead or alive. This latter one brings the hardest achievement in the completion for bringing in every HVT alive. If they die, you have to reset to your most recent save. It’s a pain because the HVT is easy enough to subdue, but their compadres tend to like tossing grenades or shooting RPGs nearby and killing them. But I managed to capture the 10 for the first faction in the game, Universal Petroleum, then a few for the P.L.A.V. easily enough. I’m sure it’s gonna get harder, but for now it isn’t too bad. Otherwise the game definitely shows its age and has a few annoyances from that era. And, a big flaw that bugs me endlessly is that all the vehicles seem to be made of papier-mâché and fall apart just from driving a little strenuously. I’m sure that’ll REALLY get annoying as the missions get harder. I guess we’ll see how things go. Regardless, it’ll get done.

Had to jump into Race with Ryan on Thursday as the spouse and I headed back to Mayo Clinic. This time it wasn’t for an ICU stay, at least. Just some check-ups and consults, but still required an overnight stay. It was an emotionally draining day and I just grabbed a couple wins and achievements because I knew it was going to be hard to do so later in the day. Still dragging this out since it’s the easiest Cloud game I have available to me whenever I’m out and about.
