After finishing up my blog (and watching TV and cleaning and doom-scrolling and editing videos…) on Sunday, I wanted to play through some of the weekly challenge in Phasmophobia with friends and relax. I figured this may not leave me time to get back to Those Who Remain before the midnight cutoff for my streak. Instead, I loaded up Ratyboy Adventures, a very basic platformer that takes about 15 minutes to get all the achievements in. I bought it some time ago, not just because it was easy but because of the F**kface Podcast, a defunct Roost Teeth production. Nowadays they’re the Regulation Podcast, and even played the game again, but back then they bought the rights to it and it was this whole gag. I figured I’d play it someday for the lulz and that was this week! Again, took about 15 minutes, and only because I had some issues with the platforming (it’s a little floaty/slippery). You simply have to complete the first three stages by collecting the 3 stars in each, all while grabbing lots of cheese, and then start the fourth stage, and boom completed. Not a good game, not even fun, but it did remind me of those old PS1 platformers I used to play.

On Sunday, I actually managed to get around to Those Who Remain. It was time for the second playthrough, which was all about being awful and murder. There are three choices to make in each run that decide the ending, along with deciding the fate of those that were involved with the central crime and cover-up of the story. I’d already memorized the steps for each run, so it was a quick affair to sprint through. There’s also little in the way of conflict, most times an antagonist showing up to chase you for a moment before disappearing back into the shadows. After getting the Nightmare Ending for killing everyone, it was time for the third/final playthrough, which can be reached easily enough by only killing a single person. I went with the lady in the mail truck, since you can just proceed and the act of not doing anything actually seals her fate. Didn’t take long on Monday and I had this wrapped up. Ugh, thanks goodness. This just felt like a chore through and through.

Hit another big milestone in Phasmophobia this week as we near the end of our ghost-hunting career. I still play every evening or so with TommyToday and Gh0st Who Walks, usually on the Sunny Meadows map for the most experience gain. Doing this got me to my second Prestige this week! And even back up to Level 20 again. Only a little more and that’ll be done. I’m also just about done with the Weekly Challenges, so that’s pretty close, too. To end the week, on Friday, I finally managed to get killed by a Demon ability within the first minute of a map, so that’s the last RNG achievement I had! It took going to a small, open map so the ghost could easily find me (Camp Woodwind), create settings where the ghost couldn’t hunt unless it was using a Demon ability, and then use the monkey paw cursed possession to force it to pop an ability. It didn’t take anywhere near as long as it could have, so happy for that.

My main goal this year is to play those games that fell kinda flat in 2024, whether that’s with the gaming community or financially. I just feel lot of those games aren’t all that bad, and especially didn’t earn the toxic vitriol the internet and gamers are far too ready to throw at anything that draws their collective ire. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a notorious target at this point, the latest in the Batman: Arkham series. It’s hard to pin down what their actual issue was, but this is definitely a departure from the previous games in the series. While the other titles were action-stealth games where you played as the Dark Knight himself, this game sees you take the roles of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, or Captain Boomerang to shoot and blast your way through an invaded Metropolis. And, yes, it’s not really a spoiler if it’s in the title: you’re tasked with taking out the Justice League. I have to admit, when I saw the trailers I was wondering why Harley Quinn (a Batman villain) suddenly had a grappling hook, or Boomerang (a Flash villain) was zipping around with the Speed Force. Luckily, they do explain this early on sufficiently, so that was nice. Then it’s off to the races! I decided to start the game as Deadshot, as his jetpack was a lot of fun in combat. I managed to make a good bit of progress in the game, making through two of the League members so far and even got Deadshot fully leveled up. I switched to Harley because she’s my least favorite character in terms of traversal, so I decided to get her out of the way ASAP. I won’t get into the story because there are legitimately some interesting twists to be had, but I’m intrigued as to what’s next.
