“Welcome back! I've got some jobs ready for you.”

Achievements Earned In:
- Palworld
- Phasmophobia

When it came to Palworld this week, I honestly didn’t try much to get achievements. I’m sorta in the endgame here, with most of the cleanup about all the game-long cumulative achievements I hadn’t gotten yet. I’ve played a lot for fun with my kiddo, so soon enough as I had my Pals working away at our base and the achievements started popping. The only thing I really went out of my way for was the achievement for registering 140 Pals in the Paldeck. I’d reached about 130 this week from just catching new Pals as I came across them and defeating/catching the various Alpha and boss Pals, so I needed to put in some work for the final few. There are many breeding results you can get that are simply elemental variations of the original creature, so I started getting those with the multitude of Pals I had in the box. And to cap it off, I went after the first of the Legendary Pals roaming around, taking aim at Frostallion in the northern “tundra” area. That was a heck of a fight, but I chose this icy horse to start because I have a team of most powerful Fire Pals, namely my level 50, fully enhanced, Alpha Bushi who did most of the work. I’d let her whittle away at the boss, then switch out to my Ragnahawk and avoid the icy attacks until Bushi was healed back up. It took almost 30 minutes of dancing with this dang horse to get it weak enough to finally start throwing Legendary Spheres. It was only an initial 1% chance of a capture, but soon enough I had it “befriended” and that achievement done. I don’t have a whole left besides starting to battle the remaining enemy tamers, and they’re tough.

Listen, I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself, but we have ingots to smelt!

Continuing my “play with others” month, I decided to finally start Phasmophobia with TommyToday and Gh0st Who Walks. I mean, I say “finally”, but really the game was only released on Xbox late last month. And everyone knows if it’s not on an Xbox platform it doesn’t matter, right? Now, this game isn’t really the moment right now like it was when it was first released into Early Access on Steam, but I know enough of it: you enter a spooky place and try to discern what spooky thing is making it so spooky. Beyond that, I didn’t really know. A quick glance at the achievement list showed that I figured I’d be able to manage whatever this was, so I jumped in. This game is neat! It’s a puzzle game through and through, as you use tools like thermometers and cameras and UV light to find three pieces of evidence about the ghost, all with the ticking clock of the stresses and spookies of the entity slowly whittling away at your sanity until it begins a hunt and kills you. And the list is large, with 20 different ghost types to identify from. There’s an achievement related to identifying each of these ghost types, along with achievements for leveling up and hitting prestige three times. It’s gonna be a fair amount of time to get this one done, but I’m having fun for now. We’ve gotten really good at identifying the ghost, and moved to Professional difficulty, just for more of a challenge. And I personally have gotten better at actually escaping a hunting ghost, something we marked as almost outright impossible at first.
