Half of this week was all guns and pew-pews with Serious Sam 4. The best part of the game was how straightforward and simple it was to progress through each stage. You just follow the waypoint and mow down everything in your way. Turn on infinite ammo, and there’s just nothing to even be concerned about, especially once you get the death ray. I had an issue progressing through the second-to-last level because the path it appears you’re supposed to follow isn’t the one. It’s next to this massive battlefield with two armies at war, and it looks a lot like this is just background. But, no, they’re fully rendered models and you’re supposed to wade into the fray. Kinda wild how many characters this game can display on-screen at once! I never really thought of this series as a graphical powerhouse, and while the textures and such aren’t the most advanced ever, the rest of the available power of the console appear to go into just showing MORE in all aspects, which is cool! You can stop for a second and enjoy the scenery, and the French/Italian countryside looks very nice! But once you get back to the task at hand it’s all a very short and easy jaunt through Mental’s forces. Complete! This was obviously much easier than the first game, which I also completed, but I’m happy I skipped the other entries…for now. I do own Second Encounter, so that’ll likely enter my backlog at some point.

This is the part where you fall down.
The final half of the week was SpongeBob’s Truth or Square, one of my Bean Dive games still lingering on my ‘tag. And, ugh, just like Epic Mickey 2 a couple weeks back, I just don’t vibe with these character platformers anymore. It’s just dull and a bore to get through, but at least it was easy. I followed a light guide to make sure I got all the side-missions completed, then for the second playthrough and the few collectibles. There’s really not much to say and nothing really noteworthy to put here. It’s done, moving on.

How is that a “happiness object”? Those idiots almost died!
With SpongeBob packed away and uninstalled, and my last few games being on the easier side, I decided to move to something a little tougher: Lords of the Fallen. And it was tougher than I expected, though I think it’s because I’m following the TA walkthrough and it had me choose to start with the Warrior armor. It’s so heavy and cumbersome and my character moves like molasses. I got smacked around quite a bit, but I think as I play I’ll either get better at dodging and/or get strong enough that it won’t matter anyway. I only made it through the first area Saturday evening (after a lovely day out socializing with TommyToday) and managed to defeat the first boss without taking damage for the achievement for doing so. It was nice being undressed and moving better. I might have to switch to a lighter build. I guess I’ll see how more of the game goes before deciding much.
